Yersiniosis

Description

Yersiniosis is a bacterial infection caused by Yersinia enterocolitica, affecting the digestive system. It spreads through contaminated food (especially undercooked pork) and water. The disease mainly affects young children but can occur in people of all ages. Symptoms include: Fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), and abdominal pain, Vomiting and nausea in severe cases, and Swollen lymph nodes and joint pain (post-infectious arthritis in some cases). Doctors diagnose yersiniosis through stool cultures and blood tests. Mild cases resolve on their own, but severe infections may require antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, doxycycline). Preventing infection involves proper food handling and hygiene.
