Osteomyelitis
Description
Osteomyelitis is a bone infection caused by bacteria (most commonly Staphylococcus aureus) or fungi. It can occur due to open wounds, surgery, or bloodstream infections. Symptoms: Severe bone pain and tenderness, Swelling, redness, and warmth over the affected area, Fever, chills, and fatigue, and Pus drainage if an abscess forms. Doctors confirm osteomyelitis through blood tests, bone scans, MRI, and bone biopsies. Treatment includes IV antibiotics, surgical drainage, or bone debridement. Severe cases may require amputation to prevent the infection from spreading.
