Lyme Disease
Description
Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected black-legged tick. The disease can cause a variety of symptoms, including a characteristic circular rash called erythema migrans, fever, headache, fatigue, and joint pain. If left untreated, Lyme disease can lead to more serious complications such as neurological problems (e.g., meningitis, facial palsy) and heart issues (e.g., heart block). Treatment typically involves antibiotics, with the duration depending on the stage and severity of the disease. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to preventing long-term health issues.
