Zenker's Diverticulum
Description
Zenker's diverticulum is a rare condition where a pouch forms in the upper part of the esophagus. This pouch occurs due to a weakness in the wall of the esophagus, leading to food and liquid getting trapped. Symptoms include difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), regurgitation of undigested food, coughing, and bad breath. The condition can lead to malnutrition or aspiration pneumonia if left untreated. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the diverticulum or, in some cases, endoscopic procedures to repair the pouch.
