Sarah's Story

Sarah's Story
Sarah, just 28, continues to weather some life storms—each phase at a time.

In August 2024, she discovered she was pregnant. However, instead of celebrating, her spouse walked away, leaving her to face the journey alone. His departure plunged Sarah into deep depression, worsened by unemployment and the reality of carrying a child without support.

“This was a very difficult period. I had to go back home and find anything to make ends meet—I was about to become a mother,” Sarah shares.

As the pregnancy progressed, so did her exhaustion and stress. Juggling odd jobs while battling emotional turmoil, she missed several clinic visits and only managed one dispensary visit in December—no scans were done.

“I thought all would be well. I just wanted everything to go right,” she recalls.

In mid-January 2025, labor began. At the hospital, she received shocking news: she was carrying twins.

“I didn’t know I was having twins,” she says, smiling. “It was a pleasant surprise.”

After a normal delivery, Sarah’s emotions spiraled—joy turned to heartbreak when one of her daughters didn’t make it.

“I didn’t even have time to take it all in—and then one was gone. It was very painful,” she shares, eyes welling up.

Postpartum depression set in. Sarah struggled to bond with baby Joyce, withdrawing emotionally. It took the gentle, steady support of our medical and psychological teams to help her reconnect and begin healing.

“There were days I just couldn’t cope. But the Kijabe team walked with me—they were so patient,” she says.

Prayer also became a lifeline.

“Pastor Githae really helped me. I could call him at my lowest, and we’d pray. He taught me to stay rooted in prayer.”

Baby Joyce spent two months in the NICU. Slowly, she began to thrive.

“Even though it was hard, seeing her grow each day was amazing,” Sarah says.

Finally, Sarah walked out of the hospital with renewed hope and a healthy daughter in her arms.

“God is good!” she exclaims. “Dr. Grace, the nurses, the psychologist—you’re amazing. Thank you for creating such a space for us. May God bless you.”

We are honored to have been part of Sarah’s journey—and we celebrate baby Joyce, another proud #KijabeBaby.
