Chickenpox
Description
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It is characterized by an itchy skin rash that progresses from red spots to fluid-filled blisters and scabs. The virus spreads through respiratory droplets or direct contact with the rash. While chickenpox is usually mild in children, it can be more severe in adults or immunocompromised individuals, leading to complications like pneumonia or encephalitis. Vaccination has greatly reduced the incidence of chickenpox. Antiviral medications may be used in severe cases.
