Yellow Fever
Description
Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, primarily in tropical regions of Africa and South America. It is caused by the yellow fever virus (YFV), a flavivirus spread by Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes. The disease can range from mild to severe, with organ failure and hemorrhagic symptoms in extreme cases. Symptoms include: Fever, chills, headache, and muscle aches, Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes) due to liver damage, Abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, and Severe cases may cause internal bleeding, kidney failure, and multi-organ failure. Doctors diagnose yellow fever using blood tests (PCR and serology). There is no specific treatment, but supportive care (fluids, pain relievers, and organ support) is essential. The yellow fever vaccine provides lifelong protection and is required for travelers to endemic areas.
