Xanthomatosis
Description
Xanthomatosis is a condition where fatty deposits (xanthomas) form under the skin due to high levels of cholesterol or triglycerides. It is often linked to lipid metabolism disorders, such as familial hypercholesterolemia. Symptoms include: Yellowish fatty growths on the skin (elbows, knees, eyelids, and tendons), increased risk of heart disease and stroke, and Liver and pancreas complications in severe cases. Doctors diagnose xanthomatosis through blood tests for lipid levels and skin biopsy. Treatment focuses on dietary changes, cholesterol-lowering medications (statins, fibrates), and treating underlying lipid disorders.
