Cervical Cancer
Description
Cervical cancer occurs in the cells of the cervix, typically caused by persistent infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). It often develops slowly over years, starting as precancerous changes that can be detected through regular Pap smears or HPV tests. Early symptoms may include abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain. If detected early, cervical cancer can be treated with surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Vaccination against HPV has significantly reduced the risk of cervical cancer in many populations.
