EMPOWERING DREAMS

"What I am learning here is in line with what I’ve always dreamed of," says Jane, one of our Emergency Critical Care Clinical Officer (ECCCO) students. She joined us earlier this year after working for six years as a Clinical Officer in Malawi.

Jane heard more about Kijabe Hospital through a surgeon from her previous workplace in Lilongwe who acted as a "Kijabe Hospital ambassador." After an extensive online search, she gained insights into Kijabe College of Health Sciences (KCHS). She also received the detailed course content shared before joining.

Jane enthusiastically expresses her passion for working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), citing her desire to instill hope in people. She recalls her awe during her first rounds at the hospital witnessing the collaborative efforts of the medical team in saving a patient's life through resuscitation. "Here, everyone is involved. Everyone wants to save a life. I was amazed at how the team collaborated during the resuscitation," she recalls.

The #ExcellentTraining offered here stands out for her. She also loves the spiritual aspect. "We usually have daily one-hour Bible study sessions. This is just like what we do back home. This practice not only helps me maintain my relationship with God but also helps me feel even more at home," she shares.

Despite the colder climate and language barrier, Jane has settled in smoothly. "I am slowly adapting. Whenever I am greeted with'sasa,' I reply 'poa'," she says, chuckling.

Jane aspires to introduce ECCCO in Malawi and serve as a mentor to other women interested in the field. "Back home, the Clinical Officer profession is mostly dominated by men. I want to go back and encourage more women to pursue their potential and reject self-doubt. I cannot wait to share all that I have picked up from here!" she concludes.

We are happy for the opportunity to impact lives beyond our borders!
